Rebelling against God isn't just limited to actually rising up with others and outwardly condemning Him, but it can also be defined as very acts we do everyday that aren't according to His will. Some examples of these would include gossip, lying, hating, not forgiving, etc.
Now, I say this to demonstrate that we all rebel against God in some form or another. But what is even worse that many of us don't realize is that we rebel against Him with the very tools he gave us with grace and mercy. These tools are our very healthy body - our eyes, hands, feet - and they could be our talents such as athleticism, good reading skills, intelligence, high IQ, social skills and they could be things such as our business, jobs, school, and money.
When God has granted all of these blessings to us to glorify His name, we instead use this against Him by claiming that all of these were earned by our own abilities, by our own efforts and dedication and we proclaim we are well-deserving of all these and therefore the glory should actually fall on us, not God. This is exactly the moment when we begin to lose gratitude, become greedy and live our lives to fulfill our selfish desires rather than to fulfill God's desires and His purpose for us. And trust me, when you go down this "pride" and selfish pathway without God, you will surely walk a path of destruction where depression, disease, emptiness, void, and darkness will consume you.
I wanna end off with an analogy:
If a young boy gets allowance money of $100 for instance from his parents, both the boy and parents will be happy at first because one gave and one received with joy and humility. However, the boy, in soon realizing that he has much more than other average fellow boys, begins to boast about his $100 and those around him begin to applaud him and praise him for so much he has. The boy becomes prideful and arrogant and begins to think that this was hard-earned and he very well deserved this. And with that $100, the boy goes back to his parents and begins to rebel against them saying, "I don't need you guys anymore, look at all I've done to earn this money. People respect me, thus you ought to respect me too."
For many of us, we are that very young boy. We boast to God about all that we've done with our abilities when it was God that gifted us with the very abilities and opportunities in the first place. Folly is part of humanity, and that is why we need to keep the Word of God close to us and ask that the Holy Spirit guide us, because we all know that the future of that boy doesn't seem so bright.
