I constructed a concise list of points to remember when playing tennis whether it be during rally or game.
To summarize,
Mood - you must be motivated to run and play intensely
Predict & move - predict where the opponent will approximately hit and move quickly
Effort:risk ratio - remember that attempting to play safe and hitting the ball passively will result in hitting the ball out (less spin generated) and losing control
Front - you want to ensure you hit the ball in front of you
And I want to add one final step that will ensure you hit a great shot, and it is to keep your head low and LOOK AT THE BALL when you go to hit it. Many people know that they gotta look at the ball but they don’t actually practice it. When I do lessons with my students, I find them always looking first at where the ball’s flying to rather than looking at the ball when hitting. This is a crucial step you must intentionally practice over and over, and this is something I am working on right now myself.
One thing for sure is I hit a much harder and more accurate shot when I keep my head low and look at the ball on impact.
This coach on Instagram also seems to agree with me.
